The NBA Draft Is Basically Online Dating

We all know how valuable Draft Express’ and Chad Ford’s draft profiles are in informing fans about the top NBA draft prospects. But the descriptions are so…impersonal, and they don’t give the prospects a chance to tell their side of the story. What these prospects need is a place to say who they are and what they’re looking for in a team. What they need is NBAMatch.com.

Think about it. The NBA draft is exactly like online dating. The profiles are the equivalent of game film and statistics and like online profiles, these facets don’t begin to give you the full picture of the prospect. Even when you finally get that in-person meeting, that vaunted first date, or, in the case of the prospects, the workouts and interviews, you still don’t have a complete idea of the prospect. It’s only until you fully commit to the person — drafting them or entering into a relationship with them — that you see whether they fit into your offense/life.

The similarities don’t end there. When one sees a person they like online and have even the slightest of interaction, be it a wink or an email, one tends to get a bit…carried away. “Sarah4675” becomes “Sarah Smith” and, gee, doesn’t that just have the most beautiful ring to it? One begins to wonder where they’ll live, if they’ll move back to California because that’s where here parents are from, and would that be such a terrible place to move? Will you raise the kids Jewish or Christian? What will you name the children? Unfortunately, doubt also enters into the equation here. You know you’re not the only one intrigued by this prospect, and there are others probably talking to her too.

This is why we’ve invented NBAMatch.com.  It’s the only website that gives the prospects a chance for their personality to shine. Pre-draft and workout interviews are too technical, too basketball oriented. Here, prospects are able to say what they want in a team. All team executives, from Hinkie to Hennigan to Hollinger, can peruse the sight. Who knows? Maybe they’ll find the perfect match after all.
